NatuGena is a German supplement company based in Ingolstadt, specializing in orthomolecular micronutrients of pharmaceutical quality. A special feature: ultra-pure HPMC capsule shells without carrageenan, PEG, or technical excipients – a detail that few manufacturers implement with such consistency. As a certified Food Coach and micronutrient expert, I have been working with NatuGena products for several years and recommend them to my clients, especially for energy metabolism, mitochondria, and sensitive digestive systems, because the formulations are particularly low in additives.
My rating: 4.7/5 – strong raw material quality, transparent lab analyses via AgroLab, fair prices for the level offered. The only criticism: the product range has become very broad and initially confusing for beginners.
NatuGena was founded with the goal of developing scientifically sound micronutrient formulations with uncompromising purity. The company is based in Ingolstadt (Münchener Straße 149), and production takes place exclusively in Germany – according to recognized quality standards GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice), HACCP, and ISO 9001 or ISO 22000.
The product range is unusually deep and covers almost all relevant application areas: Better Aging and Longevity, Mitochondria and Energy Metabolism, Gut and Digestion, Immune System, Nerves and Brain, Sleep, Skin and Hair, Fertility and Pregnancy, and Sports. Within the brand family, there are differentiated lines such as NatuGena Health Nutrition, NatuGena Med Nutrition, NatuGena Femme Nutrition, NatuGena Homme Nutrition, and NatuGena Care.
What distinguishes NatuGena from many competitors is the consistent avoidance of technical excipients. While most manufacturers use commercially available HPMC capsules with carrageenan and PEG, NatuGena has been using ultra-pure HPMC capsule shells without these excipients from the beginning. The capsules are free of gelatin, genetic engineering, allergens, and irritants. For the vegan version of Omega-3 soft capsules, GMO-free corn starch and glycerin are used, while fish oil uses gelatin.
For active ingredient forms, bioavailability is consistently prioritized: bioactive B vitamins (e.g., NADH in the Bioactive B-Complex), liposomal formulations via NanoNatu technology, highly bioavailable magnesium compounds such as bisglycinate, taurate, citrate, malate, and Magtein® (Magnesium L-Threonate) instead of inexpensive magnesium oxide. Microbiological tests and heavy metal controls for arsenic, lead, cadmium, and mercury are carried out by the independent laboratory AgroLab.
We use NatuGena products both personally and in advising our clients. We have tested the following products over longer periods:
Magnesia 7+1 – our personal favorite from the range. Eight different magnesium compounds (including bisglycinate, taurate, citrate, malate, Magtein) in one formulation. Very good tolerability even in higher daily doses, no laxative effect like with pure magnesium citrate. LipoVitamins Forte 5000 – Vitamin D3 (5,000 IU per drop) plus K2 (MK7-all-trans), Vitamin A and E in MCT oil. The combination increases bioavailability and allows for flexible dosing. Bioactive B-Complex – with NADH in an enteric-coated capsule, all B vitamins in bioactive form. This is our standard, especially for MTHFR polymorphisms or increased stress levels, because folic acid is present as 5-MTHF and B12 as methyl-/adenosylcobalamin. Mitochondrial Activator (Powder & Capsules) – over 50 ingredients, including B-complex, Coenzyme Q10, R-α-Lipoic Acid, PQQ, Curcumin C3 Complex®, Resveratrol, Quercetin, and L-Carnitine. The powder variant tastes fruity (mango-passion fruit), the 44+14 capsule variant is neutral and without sweeteners. Due to the high density of ingredients, we recommend starting with half the daily dose, especially for histamine sensitivity.
Omega-3 Vegan Oil – from the microalgae Schizochytrium, cultivated in closed stainless steel bioreactors in spring water. No contact with the sea, therefore free of heavy metals and microplastics. Totox values of the crude oil consistently range from 1–3 depending on the batch (for context: GOED recommendation ≤26, very good ≤10). What you should know: NatuGena is not a discount brand. If you value active ingredient forms, purity, and transparent lab analyses, NatuGena offers a lot for your money. Our advice: don’t buy the entire range at once, but start specifically based on a blood analysis – for example, using our Excel template for recording blood values.
NatuGena is one of the few companies that use special, ultra-pure HPMC capsule shells from the start. In contrast to standard HPMC capsule shells, these are manufactured without the usual technical auxiliaries such as carrageenan and PEG. Although these capsules are more expensive, they are free of unwanted substances.
