Norsan Omega 3 Test / Fatty acid analysis
The standardized analysis enables the measurement of the individual fatty acid status of the cell membrane in the body. The fatty acid pattern of the erythrocytes is analyzed, which allows a statement to be made about the fatty acid supply of the last 3 months.
The blood test, performed by the Omegametrix laboratory, is a standardized and meaningful procedure based on numerous scientific data. Through a blood sample in the form of capillary blood from the fingertip or EDTA blood, it is possible to determine a personalized dosage of Omega-3 fatty acids and to enable nutritional advice tailored to individual needs.
The analysis includes 26 individual fatty acid values as well as the HS-Omega-3-Index®, the HS-Trans Fatty Acids Index® and the Omega-6:3 ratio.
Omega-3 Index:
The HS-Omega-3 Index® has a high significance in relation to the prevention and therapy of numerous diseases, such as ADHD, major depression, various heart diseases and chronic inflammatory diseases. According to the study situation, the optimal value is set between 8 and 11%.
With an index value below 4%, the probability of sudden cardiac death is ten times higher than with an optimal value. Patients with chronic inflammatory diseases benefit from higher values in the range of 11-15%.
It is therefore important to keep an eye on the optimal value. The laboratory advises against a value of over 16%, as such a high level could be associated with an increased tendency to bleed.
Omega-6/3 ratio:
Reference to the crucial participation of the ratio between omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids (arachidonic acid to eicosapentaenoic acid) in inflammation formation and inhibition. A high omega-6/3 ratio leads to an undesirably high level of inflammation in the body.
Trans fats
are special fatty acids that are mainly obtained through food technology processes, for example for the production of spreadable products from liquid oils. Trans fatty acids can have a negative impact on blood lipid levels and increase the risk of coronary heart disease. It is therefore recommended that the proportion of industrial trans fats should be less than 0.5% of the total fatty acids in the body.
In the NORSAN analysis, a total of 26 different fatty acids are examined in order to obtain a detailed picture of your fatty acid profile. This information can help you to specifically adjust your diet and nutritional supplements to meet your individual Omega-3 needs.
- Tested and documented analysis method with high stability of the analysis values (approximates erythrocyte values)
- Performed at the leading European independent specialist laboratory for fatty acid analyses.
- Detailed report as the basis for medical nutritional advice
- Easy blood sampling by fingertip
